Are you an experienced facilities, engineering or maintenance manager looking to take ownership of a busy food distribution environment?
We’re looking for a Facilities Manager to lead the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of our Waltham Cross facilities, including Shoal and Carnivore. Covering ambient, chilled and frozen warehouse environments, you’ll play a key role in keeping critical equipment operational, protecting product integrity and providing a safe, well-maintained workplace.
From planned maintenance and contractor management to refrigeration resilience and site improvement projects, this is a varied role with a direct impact on day-to-day operations.
What you’ll be doing
Leading facilities and maintenance: Take responsibility for buildings, utilities, plant and site infrastructure, coordinating planned and reactive maintenance to minimise disruption to warehouse and transport operations.
Keeping critical systems operational: Oversee the maintenance of refrigeration, cold stores, HVAC, electrical and backup power systems, loading bay equipment, warehouse doors, racking, fire protection, security systems and building fabric.
Driving preventative maintenance: Develop and manage the Planned Preventative Maintenance programme, ensuring statutory inspections, servicing and testing are completed on time and accurately recorded.
Protecting temperature-controlled operations: Work with specialist refrigeration contractors to maintain system performance, respond to temperature deviations and keep contingency plans ready for refrigeration or power failures.
Supporting safety and compliance: Work alongside the Health & Safety Officer to maintain safe systems of work, risk assessments, contractor permits and compliance with applicable requirements.
Maintaining food safety standards: Partner with Technical, Quality and Operations teams to ensure maintenance work and contractor activities protect hygiene, food safety and product integrity.
Managing contractors and budgets: Set clear service expectations, review contracts and quotations, monitor expenditure and deliver value without compromising safety, compliance or reliability.
Delivering improvements: Lead and support facilities and capital projects, improve equipment reliability, reduce energy and utility consumption, and support sustainability objectives.
Developing the team: Lead and develop site engineering and facilities colleagues, plan workloads and maintain appropriate training and competency records.
Strengthening business continuity: Maintain emergency response and escalation arrangements for critical facilities failures.
